Meet Debbii Dawson, a very talented singer, songwriter and musician. Debbii burst into the spotlight on the seventeenth season of America’s Got Talent.
She wowed all the judges at the audition by playing a slow version of ABBA’s Dancing Queen. As a result, all four judges unanimously voted her through to the next round.
Sophie Vergara said, “There’s something about you. I wouldn’t mind listening to your voice all day long. It’s amazing, I love it.”
Unfortunately, due to very strong competition, Debbii was eliminated from the show just before the semi-finals. She was extremely popular with music lovers around the world, though.
Her audition video from AGT was uploaded to YouTube and received more than two million views in the first 24 hours alone! It is an amazing performance, particularly considering the stress of the four judges and a live audience. Debbii does not seem phased, and she blows everyone away.
So who is Debbii Dawson? She was born on the 10th of March 1996 in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She attended Hutchinson High School. Her dad, David, was born in India. He is also a musician. On the show, Debbii explained that her grandfather had taught himself to play the organ. The surprise was that he didn’t own an organ. Instead, he drew an organ keyboard on the pavement with charcoal and used it to learn. He taught Debbii’s father the same way, and he, in turn, taught Debbii.
David moved to America for university, where he studied music. One day, walking through the halls, he heard someone playing the piano beautifully. He went to investigate and met Debbii’s mother, Sharon. Debbii has a brother and sister, Jonathan and Sitarah. Jonathan is also creative but not a musician; he is a professional photographer.
Sitarah, on the other hand, is a singer and regularly duetted with Debbii. They came second in a talent show at the Minnesota State Fair. Debbii and Sitarah were also well known in their hometown as they were regularly asked to perform the national anthem before sporting events. There is no information about what Sitarah is doing since Debbii entered AGT>
Happily, Debbii was not deterred by her elimination from AGT. She continues to make music and uploads videos to her YouTube channel regularly. So far, she has 20,000 subscribers, but since her appearance on AGT, this is sure to grow. As well as being a talented singer and guitarist, Debbii can also play the keyboard (as taught by Dad), the piano, and the bongos.
Debbii’s speciality is making unusual acoustic versions of famous songs. It took a lot of guts for her to perform a different version of Dancing Queen at her audition. ABBA are one of the most famous bands of all time, and Dancing Queen was one of their best-known songs. However, the indie style of Debbii’s singing suited this version perfectly, and it was like hearing it again for the first time. If you’ve never heard this fabulous rendition, check it out now.
