When Diane Salinger lost her husband to Covid and then had her house wrecked by a tornado, this kind woman in her fifties found herself facing a big decision. After thinking it over, she chose to use the money she had left to start a business in a medium-sized town in Michigan.
Her idea was to sell unique products, so she purchased a small grocery store and wished for the best.
Fortunately, the area where she moved was warm and welcoming. The locals were nice and accepted her as part of their community. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be said about her landlord Chris, who was an unpleasant man only caring about himself.
Diane was the ideal tenant everyone wanted. She kept quiet, paid rent on time, and never asked for anything extra.
But one December changed everything. When rent day came around, she found herself $120 short.
As Diane handed Chris the envelope with cash inside and he began counting it up, he became furious demanding full payment immediately.
Diane tried explaining that she’d have the rest of the money in two weeks but Chris wouldn’t listen at all. Still trying to reason with him, she mentioned helping families who needed support and promised she’d pay him back quickly.
Chris started shouting at her saying that no matter how much good work she did for others he wouldn’t wait even one more day. Upset with Diane’s situation he told her to vacate by week’s end.
“I’m running a business here not giving out charity,” he snapped accusingly claiming that Diane was taking advantage of his kindness.
Seeing people leave Diane’s store with bags full of groceries made Chris think that her business must be doing well enough to cover rent which only made him angrier.
Sadly for Diane this meant being homeless as she had no choice but to find another place.
Meanwhile Chris felt no guilt about kicking her out.
A few days later he prepared himself for visiting his sister Vanessa who raised her son alone. Her life wasn’t easy but Vanessa was strong & independent which made Chris love & admire her even more!
He put $20 into an envelope for his nephew’s birthday before heading over there.
When Vanessa opened up there was an amazing smell of home-cooked food filling the air! She seemed happier than normal welcoming him inside saying dinner would be ready soon! When asked about his nephew Vanessa replied he was upstairs playing video games with one of their friends just then down came his nephew along with…Diane—the very woman Chris kicked out!
“I didn’t know you were related,” said Diane surprised.
Chris stood there shocked realizing one family needing help from Diane belonged to his sister!
“Why isn’t she asking me for help?” He muttered quietly under his breath while leaning closer; “Because it’s easier asking friends than family—Vanessa is proud yet hardworking.”
Feeling embarrassed now knowing he’d wronged Diane made him want things fixed so offered return back into apartment at half price allowing continued support towards people like Vanessa! Plus promised whenever possible he’d match what help Dianne gave too!
Diane happily accepted this offer hoping maybe just maybe Chris learned something important today!
